This week I did my artist conversation on Heather Hassenbein. Her art was a bunch of either melded metal or polymer clay. Polymer clay is her main material in most of her art pieces. It looked like a bunch of rubberbands at first but then when I got closer the image was totally different. I don’t know what it is suppose to be exactly but it was awesome.
Heather views her work as creating moments that evoke a sense of beauty, nostalgia, and jubilation. She truly enjoys what she does and loves the little details in things. She gets most of her ideas for her pieces through her own day to day environments. She love making work centered on aesthetics. She adapts to each one of her art pieces and as a result her creations are formed.
I really liked her piece especially this one. She also had a flower one but this one caught my eye. I just really like how the colors went together and how cool looking it was. I can’t say I really got an idea on what was trying to be expressed, if something was trying to be said, but even so I would like to see more.
This week I did my classmate conversation on Richard Chavez. He is a freshman and currently undeclared. Right now he is taking 16 units. He is planning to declare himself as a mechanical engineer next spring. He also is thinking about whether he should join a fraternity next spring. He has a passion for both basketball and soccer. He also says he doesn’t like to just sit around and that he enjoys being active whenever possible.
Richard was really cool to talk to. Even though all we talked about was the typical Art 110 classmate convo questions I could tell he could become a really good friend. He is also a friend of one of my friends and my week 8 classmate conversation person, Alonzo. I’m glad I spoke with him.
When it comes to art he kind of enjoys it. He likes the overall creativity of most of the artist. When it comes to the class he says it has helped him become more outgoing than usual. He also says it helped improve his overall sense of creativity.
This week’s activity is a video blog about us. This activity wasn’t hard at all and I kind of enjoyed it because I kept messing up lol. I did have to read off a script I created though so that I could do it cause I messed up like six times, but it’s all good. I hope you enjoy this video and my site.
This activity involved me having to get used to WordPress and its functions. I tried to do it like 2 hours before it was due thinking it would be easy but it ended being more confusing and difficult for me then I thought.
At first I couldn’t figure out how to make the menu and widgets work with my original theme and by the time I figured it out I had already picked a more easy, understandable, and decent looking theme. I really like my new theme because it’s so easy to understand. It also had a cool nature header designs so that made me happy. My old theme was just cool cause of the starry background, other than that it sucked.
This assignment was a good one because it helped you get used to WordPress if you didn’t understand it before. I added a calendar, WordPress sign in, recent posts, archives, recent comments, categories, and my pictures all to my side bar. I decided to leave the menu with just the home and about tabs, but I might modify it again later. For now though I am happy with my theme and I hope others enjoy it as well.
This week I did my artist conversation on Kiyomi Fukui. She wasn’t there in person to talk to but her art caught my eye. It was a desk with a bunch of rocks on it. It also had dust, soil, and other particulates in and on it.
Kiyomi said she experienced a death scene with a bird and it really talked to her. She said death is inevitably and unpredictable. She did this piece as a shrine offering to the cat and as a reminder that death can approach a person any moment in there life whether foreseen or unexpected.
I really liked the desk. I don’t know why but it grabbed my attention to the max. It was like a memorial to something, or maybe more like a creation just to show beautiful from what nature holds. This art was the best I have seen out of all of them.
This week I met Alonzo Urita. Its funny cause I was hanging out with him this whole time with my other friend Michelle and I didn’t even know he was in my class. He is a freshman pursuing a career as an engineer. Right now he is declared as an mechanical engineer. He first came in thinking of doing graphic design but he changed his mind. He is full Mexican. He played volleyball in high school. He went to Downey High and is now living in south gate.
Alonzo wasn’t that much of a talkative guy with me but I did notice that when it came to people he really did know he was very talkative. Maybe he doesn’t just like me, idk lol. We also hang out with the same people but never talk. It’s so weird. I hope I’m able to get to know him more.
He didn’t really know much about art, but he decided to take art to experience it and meet new people. He seems to be enjoying it so far because most of the art seemed kind of cool to him. He can’t wait to see what else we are going to do.
Last week was a crazy one indeed. I didn’t notice this art that I am doing today because I was in a rush for a test I needed to study for but it was awesome and I’m glad he told me about. He said it looked like a place to worship demons, and I was like really? When I saw a picture of it I was amazed. The room was pitch black with a ton of candles that lite the room but it did not entirely illuminate the dark. It also had a freaky mask.
I didn’t get to talk to her personally but my friend said she spoke as if her art was magically. Like she wanted it to be like a magical being. He said she seem as if her art was like God like. Like it was a huge divine thing. Even though it looked so dark in a way.
I thought it was one of the best art pieces I saw in awhile. I didn’t really know if it was actually a place of demon/devil worship, regular worship, or if it was like a memorial but it was cool looking. I truly wish I had got the opportunity to see it in person.
The spray paint activity last week was something I really wanted to do but I didn’t have the ride or money for it at the time. I still decided to attempt it this week but I didn’t turn out as amazing as I wanted it to be.
I decided to use a black background w green and gray spray paint but the paint didn’t come out that well. I’m guessing them cheap spray paints played me. But as I was doing it I notices an aura around where I sprayed and i kinda liked it, so I went w it. So basically it ended up being black letters w a greenish outline. I wish I could’ve of completely did the activity at the beach but hey I had to work w what I had.
Emmanuel is one of my best bros. I have known him since freshman year of high school. We both played football in HS as well. He is a very chill and laid back guy. He can be very abusive to a persons thigh though lol. He is a freshman and varsity coach at Warren High School. From that one might be able to tell that he wants to coach college in the near future. Football, Starwars, Jesus, and Lord of the Rings is his life.
What I find very unique about him is faith. He says he is not religious in which people can argue if they want but it won’t offend him. He says he has a relationship with Jesus and I kind of find that amazing. He always carrying he bible where ever he goes and if he by chance forgets it he always has little flashcards with verses on them. He tries his best to memorize as many verses as he can. It truly amazes me.
When it comes to art he may not really be interested from what I see and hear. It’s not that he doesn’t like it because some are cool to him, but mainly because he may not understand them. This class is interesting in a way he says with how the professor is doing it but art itself may not be his thing.
This week’s activity was actually pretty funny because I suck at drawing but others looked just as bad as mine lol. All the pics I saw was really cool. Some had amazing skills and others were still in Kindergarten. My drawing came out horrible but the person who drew me and my friend had me dying. It was a really cool activity.
