This week I did my artist conversation on Brittnee Forline. The first thing you had to know before looking at her art was the word Finifugal. It means hating endings; of someone who tries to avoid or prolong the final moments of a story, relationship, or some other journey. I actually like the word now cause I hate endings. Well ones that shouldn’t have ended the way they did at least. I did her piece of the ring that looked kind of like a mini crown on a piece of chain armor.
Brittnee saw life as aways changing, which I agree with, and was only looking to find some kind of stability. She uses metals to help hold concepts and moments she doesn’t want to let go of. Her body of work is an attempt to avoid endings and prolong the many journeys that has brought her joy.
I think her work is cool. I really just liked all the rings and necklaces, especially the ring that looked like a mini crown. I also love her finifugal meaning behind her work. I hope she can hang on to the things and journeys she holds dear for a very long time.
This week I did my artist conversation on Rachel Price. She is a sophomore and pre-psychology major at my school CSULB. She may want to do children psychology. She went to Los Al High School. She lives in Cypress and commutes. She played soccer all four years in high school. She also likes reggae and she is Christian.
Rachel was very chill. She likes to skateboard, preferably long boards, which I found cool cause I just started to learn myself two months ago. She also likes movies and like me she prefers to watch it then read it. I like action over comedy more but she prefers comedy over action, so we are flipped on that. She actually loved the Harry Potter series which I never fully saw and she was kind of in like wth mode about that lol. She was really cool to talk too.
She thinks class is chill. It kind of just fills a requirement for her, but she does like art. She actually likes to draw and paint on her free time. For her she rather do it then look at it. She thought the class activities were fun though because it helped with her hands on need.
This weeks activity was to teach someone one of the activities we did in the past or some other aspect of art. I decided to show them about the drawing app activity we did called French Girls. I had two friends do it and they drew each other. They said they really enjoyed it. They couldn’t stop laughing at there drawings. It was so much fun showing them this app and having them do art!!!
This class, Art 110 Visual Art, was actually a really fun class. I’m not going to lie. The fact that there was no test made this class so awesome. Professor Glenn was an amazing and understanding Professor. All of the extra credit also made the class easy and amazing. There is no way to fail this class so I don’t feel nothing more needs to be added. Its a fun and easy class.
My favorite 3 activities in this class are Plaster Casting, Spray Painting, and Landscapes. Plaster Casting was one of my favorites because we got to get out, go to the beach, and have fun by making sculptures of our bodies. Spray Painting was also the same, even though I couldn’t go to the beach for this one, but to top it off we got to spray paint! My last favorite was the Landscape activity. I just thought it was really cool and easy. I got to be dead around something I cared. I don’t know why I like it.
My least favorite 3 activities in this class are Kickstarter, Counterfactual Identity, and ePortfolio. Kickstarter was just annoying and hard to think about. Counterfactual was kind of the same. I didn’t know what to do with each. My last least favorite was the ePortfolio cause I had to change something on the web design which I didn’t really get I’m the first place. It helped me understand it better but was still annoying to figure it out.
This week I did my artist conversation on Timothy Cooper. He wasn’t there but his art was kind of interesting. His art was of 145 little plates that were made of stoneware clay and satin white glaze. It looked like a plus sign or medical sign. It was in a somewhat darkened room. It was called Something that means Something.
Timothy saw his art as something that bore witness to the ability of multiple individuals to work together to produce a positive personal, social, and aesthetic experience. His view is that the most important materials in art are community, time, and personal desires. He says that the plates carried some kind of resonance that all objects, at one time, served as a practical, personal, or communal need.
I really like it for some reason. I think since it looked like a medical sign and I’m going into medicine it just caught my interest. I wish I could’ve talked to him about it. It was actually the only one that caught my eye that day so that may have been another reason why. I can not wait to see more amazing art in the remaining weeks.
This week I met Alan Vu. He is a sophmore at my school, CSULB. He is in the pre-major of Speech Language Pathology, which is a form of Speech Therapy. He is in Phi-Kappa-Tau, which is a Fraternity. Alan is also in the Speech Language Pathology Club. He even dorms as a residental assistant (RA). He is from Salinas, CA and went to Salinas HS. Salinas is kind of a little farm town.
He seems to be a really cool guy. Alan seems very active and interacts with his school a lot. He decided to do speech therpy because it didnt involve math and he really wanted to help people. We had a little something in common with the fact that we both played football. He also ran track though which I didn’t do.
Visual art is not really his thing. He said he could appreciate it but it doesnt catch hos attention as in wanting to do it. He is more towards the music aspect of art. He took this class because it is an easy A and fulfills a requirement, but he really does enjoy the class though.
This week was do your own thing week. Truthfully I had no idea what to do but then I thought, while eating my Reeses Puff. Design something that means a lot to you with something you like. So with that I decided to spell out friends and outline my hand print as like my signature of somewhat with one of my favorite cereals, Reeses Puff. Friendship means a lot to me. I’d rather be out chilling with friends then chilling in my bed at home. Friends make life less lonely and more understandable. Without someone by your side to help you and complete you then you are alone and in sorrow for all days ahead of you. I actual thought the Reeses Puff went well with this because it shows two flavors that are good alone but even better when with eachother. This was an amazing activity and I’m glad I came up with this idea of mine.
This week I did my artist conversation on Wesley Hicks. I was actually in a rush on Thursday cause I had an exam that day I wanted to study for so I thought he wasn’t there so I just took a picture of his art and left, but then I think he should up. Some say he did but others didn’t so I don’t know if he really came or not. All I know is his art was a bunch of different sculptures and some really caught my eye. The one I chose is a set of goldish different shapes.
Hicks says that his art is him reflected back at the world through a hazy mirror. He says his art is of unknown origins and only the way he presents and arranges them gives them context. He believes art should be linked through ideas and concepts and have values both economically and spiritually that benefit those who appreciate it.
I really liked this piece of his. I don’t really know why though. It just caught my eye. Maybe it was the goldish color since I like gold but it just looked kind of cool. I had no idea what they were suppose to mean though. I’m not that in depth with art but as long as it sheds light for him and others that understand him then that’s good with me.
This week I did my artist conversation on Lindsey Karasawa. She is a sophomore at CSULB. She is majoring in Nutrition in Dietetics. To some it up she investigates peoples needs and what they need to help provide healthier eating habits. She is also in a club for her major called Student Dietetoc Association. She is from Cypress and commute. She went to Cypress High School.
The first thing I realized about her that was amazing was her name. It’s Lindsey! How cool is that!? That was kind of a fun thing we laughed about. She seems ver chilled and laid back. She said she will definitely get her Masters after which I found cool cause she was so determimed when she said it and I’m still like idk if I should get mine.
This art class is just an art class for her. She likes seeing all the nice artwork and the cool class structure in how we meet new people every week. In other words she respects art but it’s just not her thing. As a result she actually gave it a personal rating of 6 1/2 out of 10, but if it would be a overall rating based on the class and the things we see and do it would be higher, she says.
I could not think of a good way in which I wanted to die but I thought with who as a reminder by my side. All around me are toys but not just any old toys, they are the toys of my loving dog. She means a lot to me and if there is anything I would be happy to die beside or thinking about it be her. There would be more but she would be one of my main so I figured I should have all the things that are apart of her around me.
